This KBA is meant to help you navigate setting up and installing DUO which is a Multi-Factor Authenticator for the VPN and can additionally be used for your Single Sign-On Account. You'll need to utilize DUO in order to protect and get into your VPN.

Why Do I Need DUO Authentication?

DUO is an authenticator that we use in order for you to get access to swosus VPN.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enhances security by requiring multiple forms of verification before granting access. This makes it harder for unauthorized users to gain access, as they would need more than just a password.
1 - DUO for VPN Installation and Set-Up
1A - Duo Mobile
Install You'll have to go to the App Store and Install DUO Mobile. Make sure to set up your account in DUO before following the next steps.
1B - DUO Text Message
From here, if you have contacted ITS and they set up permissions to use the VPN you should have received a text for setting up your DUO Account. The text should include a link within it. Follow this Link, it should open up your DUO Application on your phone. if you previously installed it.
1C - Swosu Account Accept
After you have followed the Link from the Duo Text Message, you should be prompted to save an Authenticator Account for Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Click the save button, Now you should be all set up for DUO, make sure to keep this app in order to verify whenever you need to use the VPN.
2 - DUO For MFA
2A - SSO Setup
If you are wanting to set up DUO for you Multi-Factor Authorization for your Single Sign-On
- Navigate to Account Recovery Settings in your profile.
- Once you are signed into Single Sign-On, you will navigate to your name at the top right, click your name and select account
- You will be prompted for a password, re-enter that password, and you will have successfully navigated to Account Recovery Settings.
Now That you have Navigated to Account Recovery Settings, Click on the Authenticator tab. From here you should see, Add Extra Security with Two Factor Authentication, click the button: Get Started.
Now you should have been prompted to Choose a Security Method. You will have various different options to choose from, this KBA goes over how to set up DUO. Which will be your Security Method. If you would like to use other Security Methods, you can follow this one (the steps will be roughly the same) or follow the Multi-Factor Authentication KBA.
You should have been prompted to Set Up Authenticator and given a QR Code and A Large Physical Code made of Numbers and Letters.
2B - DUO App Setup
You'll have to go to the App Store and Install DUO Mobile. Once you're on the app, you'll be prompted to Set Up An Account. Click on Set Up An Account.
Now go ahead and select which method you would like to use. You can pick between Using a QR Code or using an activation code.
QR CODE
If you choose to scan the QR code, select activation code which will bring you to scan the QR Code.
MANUAL CODES
If you choose to manually type in the code, select activation code which will bring you to Add Account.
Select activation code which will bring you to Add Account. Type the code from the Set Up Authenticator Page
Once you have set up the authenticator app, take the Passcode and type it into the Confirmation Code Bar
You now have successfully set up DUO Authenticator as an Account Recovery Setting.
3 - Accidentally Lost DUO
If you are unable to get into your account past the security questions, you will have to contact SWOSU ITS and inform them. They will verify your information and help you get DUO Set Back Up.
You can do this by:

- putting in a ticket through the support page:
- https://support.swosu.edu
- Navigate to the Client Portal and select Request Help
- Select Technology Services and Accounts & Access
- Then Select the VPN Access Request and click the report issue button.
- A Ticket will be brought up, which you will fill out and select submit.
